Who Dominates the Enterprise Segment Worldwide
When it comes to use of operating systems on tablets, smart phones and even portable small laptops and desktops, the three latest stake holders are Apple iOS, Google Android, and Microsoft Windows. But a latest survey reveals that in the enterprise segment across the world, it is Apple’s iOS that has been dominating the mobile platform all over the world. The survey result reveals that iOS is occupying over 64% of the segment in comparison to Android 27%, and Windows 9% in the same sector. But there is no reason for Apple to rejoice as Android is steadily gaining popularity all over the world.
The Survey Report
Survey report on the relative popularity and use of the operating systems in different sectors of the enterprise segment across the globe indicates that in 2014 the use of iOS has been the largest among the users but the trend in the enterprise segment also indicates that the numbers of Android users are rapidly rising. Microsoft Windows is lagging behind at 3rd place but again the popularity is also area specific. For instance; Asian users are turning their heads towards Android in massive numbers whereas in North America and EMEA, the Windows is more popular in comparison to the other two.
Area Specific Popularity
The operating systems are mostly area specific and iOS has 67 percent share whereas in Europe it is 57% in Europe and around 64% in Asia Pacific in the year 2014. However in all these areas the trend in the early months of the year 2015 shows that Android is gaining popularity at the expense of iOS and Windows. The growth is particularly visible in the APAC region where the same has grown from 19% to 33% during 2014 and the trend is similar in other parts of the planet earth. Device diversities are the greatest in EMEA and they have around 16% presence in the area. The trend is clear. Till date it is Apple iOS but it faces big challenge from Google Android with Microsoft Windows remaining a distant challenger not yet in the scenario.
Finding Less Obtrusive Methods
Device management is getting more and more complicated with the introduction of new apps and that is why most of the entrepreneurs and enterprises are looking forward to getting ways that are less obtrusive for security maintenance. At the same time they intend to make the experience clearly acceptable for their employees and this has ushered an era of shifting policies in respect of the device levels used. The emphasis is now clearly on the granular application level policies in place of the earlier all or nothing policies adopted by most enterprises. This shift has substantially contributed to the objective of different enterprises finding less obtrusive methods for security and employee management.
Thin Dividing Line
In fact the dividing line that separates personal and commercial mobility is becoming thinner with the passage of time as most people are using smart phones in a routine manner and the same is also happening in case of tablets. Mobile users that are using iPhone6+ usually generate the lion’s share of all the data volumes generated by iPhone subscribers across the world. Data generated is 6 times the volume of data generated by iPhone6 and above 10times those generated by iPhone3G users. Basically iPhone6+is the size of small tablet with its larger screen and the pattern of data usage is also similar to the uses made by the traditional tablets. In result the mobile operators are now able to shift the subscribers to Wi-Fi usage through their mobile networking systems.
Strategies Used by Major Players
In their quest to get one better on the other the major players are resorting to strategies that will give them advantage over their rivals. Apple has taken the strategy to create large size iPhone6+ akin to Tablets whereas Microsoft is turning to create smaller device in form of lighter and easy to handle devices. In between stands Google which is now expanding the orbits of Android in many countries including Indonesia.
Answer to the question as to who dominates the mobile world still seems simple and in 2014 it was Apple iOS. But with Google Android progressing rapidly, the scenario could take a complete overturn by the end of 2015. The probability of Microsoft Windows posing big threat to either is still a remote possibility and only time will give the final verdict.
